Similarities and Differences of Doodle Fiction, Manga, ad Graphic Novel
Have a blast day, everyone! For this blog, let’s determine the similarities and differences of these three literary genres; Doodle Fiction, Manga, and Graphic Novel.
To put everything simply, literature in the 21st Century refers to new literary works created within the last decade. It is created through imaginative and artistic writing that deals with current themes and reflects technological culture. Literary works, however, include nondramatic textual works with or without illustrations. They may be published or unpublished. Computer programs and databases also are considered literary works. It has evolved into a means of expressing suppressed human emotions and allowing people to expand their imagination, break free from the things around them, and create their own world which does not only give the authors the pleasure they wanted, but also to the readers.
But to put a sense in this blog, let’s introduce the definition of each topics first before proceeding to our main point in order for us to understand and gain knowledge regarding the three literary genres.
Doodle Fiction - This genre consists of cartoon doodles with handwritten graphics in place of traditional font. Since it has drawings, it enhances the story and often adds humorous elements. Doodle fiction freshens the idea of the author to improve the narrative by frequently introducing funny elements in the literary work to enhance the concrete representational meaning or may just be composed of random and abstract lines.

Manga - In Japanese, the term “manga” can refer to all kinds of cartooning, comics and animation, as it is composed of two kanji - “man”, meaning “whimsical or impromptu” and “ga”, meaning “pictures”. It is an umbrella term for a wide variety of comic books and graphic novels originally produced and published in Japan. Unlike American comic books, which are usually printed in full color, Japanese manga are almost always published in black and white. Furthermore, it is drawn in a heavily stylized way and usually oriented for reading right to left. Manga has categories such as boy’s manga, girl’s manga, men’s manga, women;s manga, children’s manga, and many more.

Graphic Novel - is a format, not a genre. Graphic novels can be fiction, non-fiction, history, fantasy, or anything in-between. Graphic novels are similar to comic books because they use sequential art to tell a story. Unlike comic books, graphic novels are generally stand-alone stories with more complex plots. It uses the interplay of text and illustrations in a comic-strip format to tell a story. Instead of relying on just text to construct a narrative, it uses graphical elements such as panels, frames, speech/thought balloons, etc. in a sequential way to create and evoke a story in a reader's mind.

Let’s now proceed to know what the similarities and differences of the given topics are:
Similarities of the given topics - Doodle Fiction, Manga, and Graphic Novels have the same characteristics which incorporate drawing, illustrations, or graphics in telling the story. They are all used in creative writing and are necessary to produce a great mind work from a human’s imagination.
Differences of the given topics:
Doodle Fiction incorporates handwritten graphics in telling the story, it is a literary presentation where the author incorporates doodle drawings and handwritten graphics in place of traditional font.
Manga uses a comic book format presented in panels read from right to left.
A graphic novel is a narrative work in which the story is conveyed to the reader using comic form.
