September 18 ,2022

Good day! I'm Mariell Fate Martel and I'm here to show you the similarities and differences of the three literary genres.

21st Century Literature refers to new literary work created within the last decade. It is written by contemporary authors which may deal with current themes/issues and reflects a technological culture. It often breaks traditional writing tools.

Doodle Fiction,Manga and Graphic Novels are some of the 21st Century Literature Genre. Each genres are composed of it's respective elements and structures. Also, there are some similarities and differences that each genres offered.

DOODLE FICTION

Doodle Fiction incorporates handwritten graphics in telling the story, it is a literary presentation where the author incorporates doodle drawings and hand written graphics in place of traditional font. Drawings enhance the story, often adding humorous elements that would be missing if the illustrations were omitted.

Examples:
✓Diary of a Wimpy Kid by Jeff Kinney
  ✓Danny's Doodles by David Adler
✓The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie

MANGA

Manga uses a comic book format present<ed in panels read from right to left. They are published periodically in Japan. Manga is the Japanese word for comics. It is used in the English-speaking world as a generic term for all comic books and graphic novels originally published in Japan. Manga is considered an artistic and storytelling style. The term "Ameri-Manga" is sometimes used to refer to comics created by American artists in a manga style.

Examples:
  ✓One-Punch Man
  ✓ One Piece
  ✓ Naruto

GRAPHIC NOVEL

Graphic Novel uses a comic book format
presented in panels and read from left to right. A graphic novel is a narrative work in which the story is conveyed to the reader using comic form. The term is employed in a broad manner, encompassing non-fiction works and thematically linked short stories as well as fictional stories across a number of genres.

Examples :
✓ Ghost World by Daniel Clowes
✓The Diary of a Teenage Girl by Phoebe Gloeckner
  ✓Maus by Art Spiegelman

Similarities

All of these genres incorporate drawingsillustration, or graphics in telling a story. This is just basic definition of each of the genre. Doodle Fictions use doodles for a more humorous and/or engaging effect, while both of the Manga and Graphic Novels use a comic book style. All of these styles, to be even more obvious, contains pictures that engages viewers effectively. These are all from the 21st Century. Each genre couldn't come into being without the assistance of a computer or through digital mechanisms.

For the specific contexts, Manga and Graphic Novels are both in comic book style as aforementioned repetitively. They use panels with illustrations and texts for readers to quickly understand. Doodle Fictions and Graphic Novels are not necessarily from a specific country, as long as the literary piece contains elements with or defines itself as these genres, they can be branded likewise.

DIFFERENCES

In Doodle Fiction, it involves doodle writing and handwritten graphics while manga and graphic novel involve drawings and illustrations but in comic book style. Doodle Fiction is similar to story book type of narration unlike the two, it shows both pictures and text, and is written like an article. However, Manga uses a very specific Japanese Art style and it is read first at the back of the book, it is read from right to left that makes it very different from graphic novel. Lastly, in Graphic Novels, it is quite similar to manga because they follow comic book style however they vary in language and also graphic novel is published in America unlike manga. In addition to that, graphic novel is read from left to right that differs it to manga.
